|
I went out this afternoon to have a look at some of our fishing waters and I can't beleive how Irons Croos Pool got into a bad state - everything is over grown - you couldn't get access pass the grennhouses because the stinging nettles and brambles - I managed to get through and still couldn't find a fishing peg! And the other massive problem is the weed!which need to be taken out.
May I ask the comittiee on how much rent are "we" paying for the lease of this water?

Feel free to volunteer for some bank clearing work, we on the committee do alot of bank clearing on most of our waters in our own time unpaid for the benefit of our members, but it seems to be the same few turning up week after week. Unfortunately we do not have enough man power to keep up all the work every week.
We have over 600 members and only tops of 10 members will go bank clearing and most are committe members.
So unfortunately we do not get chance to get around every venue.
oh feel free to volunteer for some clearing work

Would ABAC would lend the power trimmer, cord and petrol to allow me to do the work if I decide to do the work?
I feel that we should introduced a new ruling that it must be compulsory to do some bank clearing! If members refused to do some bank clearing then they should be fine extra on top of the membership fees.
This systems work very well in another syndicate water which I belong to

Andrew this works in another club I am a member of. With the exception of juniors, OAPs and disabled members, all full members have to either attend at least one bank clearing session or pay a £10 levy on their renewal. That levy then goes to pay for contractors to come in and do some of the work, especially any specialised work such as tree-work etc.

Yes Stu - I know which club you're on about and I know That most members would rather pay the extra fine/levy on the renewal.
I can't see why can't we do the same here!

OK, I thought I would throw my two penneth in.
Although I have bags of time (unemployed, house husband) and I would be available to do bank clearing I am unable to drive.
You may say that if I can get to fishing, then I can get to bank clearing. But I can only go fishing when my Wife is available to drop me off and pick me up!
I also think that if you can go down the road of penalties for those who fail to contribute to such duties, then maybe also a reward scheme could also work.
For example of the top of my head, those who participate in bank clearing would be entered into a draw for say tackle vouchers or a prize.
This may sound silly but... just out of interest as a new member, how does the bank clearing work i.e. is transport, tools etc. provided or do we all turn up with our own stuff?
Ian

I am a new member and would happily give a a few mornings and afternoons at a weekend to tidy up this venue if we had the tools.
I've seen this water and I fancy the challenge of fishing somewhere that looks and feels undiscovered - I admit I was a little surprised that it was listed as a club water with disabled access!

Good luck Matthew! Is there ANY water left in there after the recent dry spell?
And after you have climbed over the rusted agricultural machinery museum and hacked out a peg you will be disabled
Had a very quick go at the water last year and never got a sniff so would love someone to come on the forum and tell us that it is worth trying again.
Cheers
Pete

Don't let my whingeing put you off Matthew I am not the greatest on hard waters and I did have the nipper with me!
Just didn't feel like there was any chance of me catching and the water is very shallow so anyone who does well there will have my greatest respect
And if you get there and just don't fancy it (bit of a trek from Droitwich) then Cann Lane and Wood Bev are literally 5 minutes away in the car.

This is very true.
I may have a bash tomorrow morning. The rain put me off today. I don't mind a bit of rain but crawling through wet bushes and not having enough space to put up a brolly isn't my idea of fun, and I was planning to try fishing off the surface which I can't imagine suits the rain....
