I have fished it today having not been here for 2 or 3 years. Have to say it looks much nicer than I remember it :D There is a lot more greenery around and is now a very nice place to spend a couple of hours... Managed a nice carp and a decent bream and there is a small tree fallen in the pool so we...

Come on Turbo! The blank days are what make you remember the "good" days. I have blanked pretty often at Wood Bev because I am still a novice when it comes to pole or even float fishing but I have also had a few gorgeous crucians and the odd nice bream and tench (still cannot catch any of ...

New padlock but what is the code?

Hi all just a word of warning! Went to Alvechurch pool this morning with a fellow member only to find that our padlock has been replaced and was unable to get in. I have since learned that the new padlock was supplied and fitted by the people who keep the horses in the stable by the entrance but tha...

You are right about the larger carp and their damaged mouths. Unfortunately this is a result of former times (before Matchbox had the pool) when every kid in town used to fish there and they all used the same method. Floating a slice of bread on a minimum size 8 hook and striking as hard as possible...

Had a couple of hours there this morning and did better than my last visit :) Fished pole on peg 25 by the bushes and had as many perch as you want on maggot and some decent roach which seemed to prefer casters. Also had a couple of carp and tench on corn a bit further out on the pole and another ca...

Carling Cup photo

If there are any Blues fans who would like their photo taken with the Carling Cup, the club has announced that it will be on display from Monday in the shop window of Cash Converters in Small Heath.

Well, as you say, it doesn't look like the angler in question is going to come forward with the details  But as I was there I do know all the details :) and if he hadn't served me with a super-injunction I would reveal all! Oh sod it! Let him sue me! He was on the pole with pellet and he landed...

Big fish came out on Monday!

Who needs the Vale or Abbotts? I didn't catch it but I was there.
Hopefully the chap who landed it will come on the forum and give more details.
Well done mate!

Thanks Felix
I hope you are right about kids as they cannot become members whilst under 12 anyway so it would be harsh to charge them for day tickets.
And I can see how the previous system would be open to abuse either intentionally or not.
Cheers

Thanks for the update Roger.
So, just to be clear, casual fishing for spouses, partners, and children of members has been completely abolished? Including children under 12?
Thanks

Fair point Geoff. I suppose what I was trying to say is that if you are happy with what you are getting out of your membership (as I am) then you don't need to attend the AGM.
So, as a contented member :) I will be stuck in front of the telly that night.

No I have never been.
To be honest, unless you have a complaint to make, or you think you have the time and ability to do a better job than the current committee members then I can't see much point in going.
On the other hand it is an excuse to go down the pub for a couple of hours :D

Hi Fished Swan for a couple of hours at the weekend and managed my first carp of the year Fished the car park side of the pool about half way down and a couple of chaps a bit further down also caught so yes, they are feeding. Not exactly fast and furious but did get one or two other nibbles. Even sp...
